iPad App – Reeder, Google RSS Reader

by on Jul.03, 2010, under iPad, iPhone

One might expect to find a number of RSS feed readers for the iPhone and iPad at the app store and you would be right.  Over the last two years I have purchased a number of readers looking for the one that has everything I am looking for in a reader.  As of today the est one I have found so far to meet all my needs is Silvio Rizzi’s Reeder app.

Previous to making the move over to Reeder, I was using and happy with Early Edition by Glasshouse Apps. Early Edition offered me just about everything but one key item which is, caching the images and articles.  I travel and when I do, I can’t always rely on being in a connected state to retrieve and view my feeds. While I prefer the Early Edition’s user interface (UI), the feature set that Reeder offers convinced me to make the move.

Reeder provides

– Syncs with Google Reader
– Browse by feed or folders
– Manage starred items, notes
– Support for shared items and friends’ shared items
– Mark as unread
– Image caching
– State saving
– Slider control for list entries:
> slide to right to toggle read/unread
< slide to left to toggle starred/unstarred

Including

Services/sharing:
– Send to Instapaper or ReadItLater
– Save to Delicious* or Pinbard
– In-app email for sharing articles
– Instapaper and Google Mobilizer
– Open with Safari

An additional feature that I like is the ability to email the article to friends or store it to Instapaper.  Once feature I would like to see added is the ability to save to my Evernote notebook.  I save the information today via the email process to Evernote.

The Reeder app is well worth the $4.99 and as I wait for my iPhone 4, I will purchase the iPhone version.
